PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS. ![]()
Is your glass half full or is it half empty? This is a well known expression to describe how people may perceive the same situation. The half full person sees the possibilities, opportunities etc. in a positive way. The half empty person sees the drawbacks, down sides etc. in a negative way. You may have noticed my arm in a sling. I have recently had an operation on my thumb. I have a plaster cast which stops me from doing some things and is awkward and can be frustrating. The other day I came across an article about a child who had contracted meningococcal B and lost all 4 limbs. I quickly changed from half empty to half full!
Welcome to: Jay Morrison. Jay is teaching in Room 5 until the end of the year while Celeste Steer is on maternity leave. Lee Dunham – Lee is the teacher in the Life Education Caravan.
SCHOOL LUNCHES: Please remember to use the correct form for each of our lunch providers. Monday, Wednesday, Friday: TE PUKE BAKERY Tuesday, Thursday: SUBWAY. If you do not have forms at home, there is a supply of the correct forms available at the Library door each day. If your child is using an incorrect order form our providers are more than happy to substitute food to make sure each child has something to eat. The worry here is that some children may be allergic/culturally sensitive to food supplied but we endeavour to make sure children do not go hungry. MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK – 26TH-30TH JULY (Next Week!!) Fairhaven School will be celebrating Maori Language Week with a focus on Matariki and integrating Te Reo into our topic studies. We will be having fun activities throughout the week and the children will be participating in many in-class sessions to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori. If anyone has any skills and time to offer support for our tamariki and teachers, please let the school know(ring us). Can you weave(flax fish/flowers), make poi, assist with story telling, make bread(fried/rewana), assist with kite making or other traditional crafts, we would appreciate any offers of support. Come on whanau, get involved! |
DATES TO
REMEMBER
New Entrants:A reminder to parents who have children who will be turning 5 years old during 2010, it would be most helpful if you would contact the school so that we can plan for their enrolment. Some parents turn up on their child’s 5th birthday ready to start their child and we haven’t been able to organise pre-visits. We also need to plan when we will start up new classes, which is difficult when we have not been notified of over half our enrolments. Please help us to help your child have an enjoyable start to their schooling.
WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES: 2:20 pm in the school hall. |

Jackson Hollinshead presents the ball for All Blacks in Auckland. On the 10th July Jack ran the ball on to the field for the All Blacks vs South Africa game at Eden Park, Auckland. Jack was given the privilege of running the ball on to the field for the All Black vs Sth Africa game in Auckland from his Aunt who won the prize through a Coca-Cola competition. The prize included an All Black outfit (socks, boots, shorts and rugby jersey) for Jack along with being flown to Auckland with his parents. Jack and his dad went to the side line to watch the warm ups before he ran out on the field. Jack also met and had his picture taken with Anthony Borich. This was an experience of a lifetime for Jack which he thoroughly enjoyed – much to the envy of every rugby loving fan at Fairhaven School. Scholastic Book Orders close Wednesday (28th) next week. Please send all orders to the office.
