At Fairhaven we  “grow leaders”. We provide opportunities for pupils to take on responsibilities, to be extended physically, socially and academically. Peer Mediators, Patrol & Bus Monitors, Young Leaders conference, School Council, Future Champions event, Te Puke and WBOP Sporting events, ICAS Tests, Young Einstein, leading assemblies are all ways in which we extend our future leaders.

Young Leaders are chosen from our Year 6 students. They meet most weeks and are involved in: organising school events such as our school Disco, delivering the milk to classes, Travel Safe (Walking Wednesday), greeting and thanking visitors and leadership training including attending National Young Leaders Day in Rotorua.

The Lead it group is chosen from our year 5 students. They are trained to help run lunchtime activities with younger students.

Peer Mediators are chosen from our Year 6 students. They have been trained in mediation and are integral during break times at supporting; friends having disagreements, students with no one to play with and student disputes over rules in games being played.
Road Patrollers are chosen from Year 6. They undergo training by the Police and ensure our students cross the roads safely when arriving to and departing from school.

Bus Monitors are chosen from Year 5 and Year 6. They undergo training by the Police and ensure our students are safe on the bus.

School Librarians are chosen from Year 5 and Year 6. They are trained by our school librarian and are rostered on to assist students in the library. Additionally our Librarians re-shelve and issue books to students.

We are very proud of our Fairhaven leaders; they are positive role models to other students and help make our school the fantastic place it is. Our pupils not only excel at Fairhaven but also go on to excel at Intermediate and High School. They are sports leaders, on school councils and well represented at the end of year prize giving’s at both schools.
