‘Toitoi Manawa’ means “to motivate, encourage and inspire.”  We are blessed to have been given that name by kaumatua. (Māori elders)

We are a bilingual, Level 2 Māori immersion unit (i.e. >50% instructional te reo)

Our Aim: (as set by whānau)

To encourage ‘Whānaungatanga’ (sense of family connection and belonging), to inspire children to succeed academically and be confident in who they are, and where they come from and to promote learning within a Māori context.

Toitoi Manawa learns from the ‘Te Marautanga o Aotearoa’ curriculum.

Maori knowledge, culture and values are fostered through;

  • Manaakitanga (building and nurturing a supportive and caring environment)
  • Ako – learning together (from one another)
  • Tuakana / Teina (peered tutoring)
  • Whānau participation in their child’s learning (both within class and at home)
  • Waiata and Kapahaka
